2017 Open Source Big Data Business Intelligence Tools
Although business intelligence is widely seen to be an aspect of Big Data, in fact the marketplace of business intelligence tools far predates the rapidly growing Big Data market. Depending on whose history you read, the first BI tools stretch all the way back to the early 1990s, or easily about fifteen years before Big Data became part of the enterprise vernacular. So it’s no surprise that this list of BI tools is remarkably advanced – it has a long history of iteration upon which to build. For instance, one of the vendors on these pages has gained enough credence to be named a “Cool Vendor” by research firm Gartner. At least two more of the products are clearly “top of mind” names in the larger world of enterprise software. In fact, business intelligence predates open source itself (at least in the enterprise) yet these entries reveal that open source has quickly gained ground on its proprietary competitors.
BIRT
Short for "Business Intelligence and Reporting Tools," BIRT is an Eclipse-based tool that adds reporting features to Java applications. Actuate is a company that co-founded BIRT and offers a variety of software based on the open source technology. Operating System: OS Independent.
Jaspersoft
Jaspersoft boasts that it makes "the most flexible, cost effective and widely deployed business intelligence software in the world." Jedox
The open source Palo Suite includes an OLAP Server, Palo Web, Palo ETL Server and Palo for Excel. Jedox offers commercial software based on the same tools. Operating System: OS Independent.
KNIME
The Konstanz Information Miner, or KNIME, offers user-friendly data integration, processing, analysis, and exploration. In 2010, Gartner named KNIME a "Cool Vendor" in analytics, business intelligence, and performance management. Pentaho

SpagoBI claims to be "the only entirely open source business intelligence suite." Commercial support, training and services are available. Operating System: OS Independent.
Talend
Talend makes a number of different business intelligence and data warehouse products, including Talend Open Studio for Big Data, which is a set of data integration tools that support Hadoop, HDFS, Hive, Hbase and Pig.
